Located approximately 30 minutes east of Asheville, the quaint town of Old Fort is rich in Native American and railroad history, which culminates at the railroad crossing by the striking 14-foot hand-carved granite arrowhead centerpiece in the heart of downtown. Neighboring Old Fort, just 10 minutes further east, is Marion. Both towns are considered hidden gems and hotspots in the world of mountain biking and Bigfoot fanatics.

The Fonta Flora State Trail has several sections accessible near Old Fort, including Copper Ridge and Point Lookout, and Old Fort is home to the popular and pet-friendly Catawba Falls trail. This stunning 100-foot waterfall is reached via a moderate 1.5-mile hike that follows along the Catawba River. Popular year-round, the wading pools are fi lled during the summer with hikers looking for a quick cool down, while the fall color brings leaf peepers from all over. Thanks to the expansion of the G5 Trail Collective, Old Fort also has a growing reputation as a top destination for mountain biking. From the beginner-friendly Old Fort Gateway Trail System near Curtis Creek to challenging trails like Kitsuma and Heartbreak Ridge, mountain biking enthusiasts of all levels can fi nd the perfect adventure just minutes from town.
Overlooking Mill Creek, Hillman Beer is a hub for locals and visitors alike that offers delicious craft beer and pub fare. Also nearby is Whaley Farm Brewery, 27 Main, Seeker Coffee, euda wine, and Modern Alchemist Distillery. Old Fort is also home to Foothills Watershed, a 117-acre family-friendly bike park and recreation area serving up cold beer and Latin-inspired cuisine.
